BELLEVILLE — A motorist alleges a Belleville garbage truck caused a St. Clair County collision.

Richard D. Potts filed a complaint on July 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the City of Belleville and employee Jonathan A. Laing, alleging Laing failed to maintain proper control of the garbage truck he was operating.

According to the complaint, Laing drove a 2001 Mack Rearloader garbage truck into Potts' vehicle. Potts claims he sustained severe and disabling injuries to his limbs, back, neck, spine and head.

Potts claims the garbage truck driver carelessly attempted to change lanes and failed to avoid the collision.

Potts requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against each defendant of more than $50,000. He is represented by James K. Keefe Jr. of Keefe and De Pauli in Fairview Heights.
