Patient alleges delayed treatment following stroke

BELLEVILLE — A patient claims he suffered permanent injuries after his stroke was not timely diagnosed. 

Michael Kuhn and Judy Kuhn filed a complaint on May 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Richard E. Nicol, MD, Robert J. Marshall, Midwest Emergency Department Services, et al., alleging they failed to exercise the highest degree of care and skill required of prudent health care providers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Dec. 22, 2017, Michael Kuhn saw the defendants, complaining of signs and symptoms of a stroke. However, he alleges the defendants failed to timely diagnose and treat his stroke, failed to timely initiate treatments to dissolve the clot and improve blood flow to the part of the brain begin deprived of blood flow. 

As a result, Kuhn suffered an untreated stroke, permanent pain, disability and incurred large sums of money for hospital, medical and rehabilitative expenses. 

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages in and amount greater than $75,000, plus costs of this action.
