The Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel will celebrate Law Day on May 4 with a judges' panel discussing issues related to separation of powers and the role the judicial branch plays in enforcing and upholding the law.
Panelists will include Madison County Circuit Judge David Dugan, and from the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, St. Clair County Associate Judge John O'Gara and Associate Judge Richard Brown of Randolph County.
Three topics that will be addressed include:
-The role of the judicial branch: How judges enforce and interpret laws;
-Challenges of the judicial branch: Issues that arise as judges enforce the law and how judges handle those issues; and
-Expectations from the judicial branch: What judges expect from attorneys, witnesses, jurors and the media who enter the courtroom
The event will be held at the Wildey Theatre, located at 252 N. Main St. in Edwardsville.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. The panel discussion starts at 2:30 and will be followed by a reception that begins at 4 p.m. The event is free.
Law Day is an annual holiday celebrated across the United States to recognize the importance of the rule of law.
