EDWARDSVILLE — A man claims an employer negligently entrusted its semitrailer to a driver who crashed into his vehicle.

Scott Matthews filed a complaint April 20 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Gary H. Estep and Cassens Transport Co. alleging Cassens negligently entrusted its semitrailer to an unsafe and unqualified driver, Estep.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 26, 2016, he was on Route 130 waiting to make a left turn on County Place in Villa Grove when Estep, who was worked for Cassens, caused the semitrailer he was driving to collide with the back of the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff holds Gary H. Estep and Cassens Transport Company responsible because Estep allegedly failed to control the semitrailer he was driving, failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to yield the right of way.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in a sum greater than $50,000, plus costs of this action. He is represented by Adam B. Riback of Levin, Riback, Adelman & Flangel PC in Chicago.
