BELLEVILLE — A number of companies are being sued after a man died of lung cancer.

Brandi Sieler, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Del Laird, deceased, filed a complaint April 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Air & Liquid Systems Corp., Gardner Denver Inc., Riley Power Corp. and others, alleging they failed to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at during Laird's life, he was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. Sieler and Laird learned on April 23, 2016, that Laird had developed lung cancer, which the suit claims is caused by asbestos exposure. He died Nov. 19, 2016. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew that the material negatively affected human health and failed to give adequate warnings and instructions about the risks of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a jury trial and seeks compensatory damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Ethan A. Flint and Laci M. Whitley of Flint Law Firm in Edwardsville.
