EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is suing after she allegedly tripped on the steps leading to the seating at Edwardsville's Showplace 12 theater.

Sharon Sherer filed a complaint on April 2 in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Realty Income Illinois Properties 3 LLC and AMC Entertainment Inc., doing business as Showplace Edwardsville 12, alleging they failed to exercise reasonable care in maintaining and operating the theater.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 17, 2016, she suffered injuries when she tripped and fell on the steps leading to the theater seating.

As a result, Sherer claims she has become liable for large sum of monies for necessary medical treatment.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide sufficient lighting along the aisle to enable patrons to see the floors and failed to provide sufficient indicators where a step began.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus court costs.

She is represented by Joshua R. Evans of The Unsell Law Firm PC in East Alton.
