Medical malpractice 08

BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing health care providers, alleging they failed to diagnose the husband's tumor.

Scott Kalina and Melissa Kalina filed a complaint March 21 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and others, alleging the health care providers failed to exercise the highest degree of care, learning and skill required.

According to the complaint, Scott Kalina's brain tumor went undiagnosed and untreated, causing his tumor to grow. The plaintiffs claim he had to undergo radiation and chemotherapy and continues to receive treatment.

Scott Kalina claims he has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and loss of normal life and has incurred medical expenses, the complaint states.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to properly diagnose and treat Scott Kalina's medical condition.

The plaintiff seeks damages in an amount greater than $75,000, plus costs of this action.

They are represented by Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
