EDWARDSVILLE – The administrator of a South Roxana man's estate alleges a wrong-way driver was intoxicated and on drugs when she caused a fatal collision on Highway 255.
Lecia Hearn, special administrator of the estate of Marlon D. Buford, deceased filed a complaint on Feb. 15 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Amanda Runtz and Timothy Varble, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 17, Buford was driving his motor vehicle northbound on Highway 255. The suit states Runtz was driving on the same highway, traveling south in the northbound lane and collided head-on with Buford. The suit states Varble struck Buford's vehicle from the rear. The suit states Buford died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The plaintiff alleges Runtz breached her duty of care when she drove while intoxicated and drugged and Varble failed to stop his vehicle and keep a proper lookout.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action.
