Motorist seeks damages from US Transport Service over I-44 rear-end collision

Semi crash 02

BELLEVILLE – An East St. Louis man alleges he was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 44 in Rolla, Mo.

Richard Sumner filed a complaint on Feb. 14 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against US Transport Services Inc. and Robert A. Marini, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 27, 2016, he was stopped for traffic on Interstate 44 when Marini, who was operating a US Transport Services tractor-trailer, negligently crashed into the rear of his vehicle.

Sumner claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries to his neck, lower back, spine and muscles and incurred medical expenses of more than $24,000 as a result of the collision.

The plaintiff alleges Marini failed to maintain his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to apply brakes in a timely manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of the action and any other relief the court may deem just and proper.

He is represented by Zane T. Cagle of The Cagle Law Firm in St. Louis.
