Nursing home resident alleges negligent care

Medical malpractice 08

EDWARDSVILLE — A nursing home resident alleges employees provided negligent care, causing her to become sick.

Deborah Wetherell filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against St. Mary's Health Care Center Investors LLC, doing business as Edwardsville NSG & Rehab Center, alleging it violated the resident's rights.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges the defendant carelessly failed to monitor her urine output when employees knew that she had urine retention issues and failed to insert a catheter, causing her to become sick, lame and disordered.

As a result, the plaintiff alleges she suffered disability, past and future medical care and treatment expenses and pain and suffering.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this suit.

She is represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi & Associates PC in Belleville.
