EDWARDSVILLE — A pedestrian is suing a motorist for allegedly hitting her while backing out of a driveway in Glen Carbon.

Elizabeth M. Harden, formerly known as Elizabeth M. Lee, filed a complaint on Dec. 13 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alexander J. Byrd, alleging he failed to operate a motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, Harden alleges that on May 31, 2015, she was walking on the public sidewalk along Michelle Drive in Glen Carbon when Byrd carelessly backed his vehicle out of a driveway and hit the plaintiff.

As a result, Harden claims she sustained injuries that required two surgeries.

The plaintiff alleges Byrd did not keep proper lookout and did not keep his vehicle under proper control.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs and attorney's fees.

She is represented by P. K. Johnson IV of Johnson & Johnson in Belleville.
