Motorist sues Mascoutah school, bus driver over collision

Car accident 29

BELLEVILLE — A motorist is suing Mascoutah Community Unit School District #19 after one of its bus drivers allegedly caused a collision.

Betty M. Allen filed a complaint on Nov. 28 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mascoutah Community Unit School District #19 and Kathleen A. Sanders, alleging Sanders failed to operate Mascoutah's bus in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 8. 2016, she was operating her vehicle when Sanders allegedly crashed into her vehicle while driving a Mascoutah school bus.

As a result, Allen claims she sustained injuries both externally and internally, resulting in disability, disfigurement, and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Sanders failed to yield right of way, failed to maintain careful lookout and failed to timely apply brakes to avoid the accident.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this action and any other relief that are appropriate.

She is represented by Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt & Tobin PC in East Alton.
