BELLEVILLE — A Cahokia woman is suing health care providers for allegedly failing to evaluate the cause of rectal bleeding, which allowed her undiagnosed cancer to metastasize.
Sheila Stanley filed a complaint Oct. 18 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Fairview Medical Group LLC, Dr. Mounir Shenouda and Dr. Vasantha Pai, alleging they breached their duty to use the knowledge, skill and care ordinarily practiced by medical professionals.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as a result of the defendants' negligence, the cancer in her rectum went undiagnosed and has metastasized. On June 21, 2016, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer.
The plaintiff alleges Shenouda failed to evaluate the cause of rectal bleeding that she reported Sept. 11, 2006, failed to refer her to an appropriate health care provider and failed to timely review her rectal globulin immunochemistry test collected on her stool in 2013 and 2015.
She also claims Pai failed to take into account the significance of reported anemia, failed to follow up on the removal of a polyp, failed to evaluate blood in her stool and failed to investigate history of bleeding.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this action.
She is represented by Paul G. Schoen of Schoen Law Firm PC in Belleville.
