Mother alleges motorist's negligence led to crash that injured her children

EDWARDSVILLE — The mother of two children is suing a motorist, alleging his negligence led to vehicle crash that injured the plaintiff and her children. insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Megan Harley of East Alton, individually and as mother and next friend of Levi Harley and Dean Harley, both minors, filed a lawsuit June 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Michael C. Lascody alleging negligence in failing to keep his vehicle under control.

According to the complaint, on July 25, 2014, Harley was traveling north along County Town Road when he attempted to stop on a wet pavement and slid into Harley's vehicle, striking it head on. 

The suit says the violent collision caused injuries to Megan Harley's head, neck, back, left knee and toe, and she suffered scrapes to her face and legs. The lawsuit states the children were also injured have been hindered and prevented from their usual duties and affairs. 

The suit says Megan Harley has expended large sum of monies for hospital costs and medical treatment. The plaintiff alleges Lascody failed to reduce speed in a timely manner, failed to keep proper lookout, failed to stop at a stop sign and drove his vehicle faster over the speed limit.

Megan Harley seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. She is represented by Bob L. Perica of The Perica Law Firm PC in Wood River.
