Woman claims motorist ran stop sign

EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist is suing over injuries she allegedly suffered in the course of an automobile accident. She is citing negligence.

Melissa Flack filed the suit March 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Joseph Robertson.

On Dec. 18, 2015, the plaintiff was driving her Oldsmobile westbound on Madison Avenue near the intersection with 26th Street in Granite City, while at the same time, the defendant was driving his vehicle westbound on 26th Street near its intersection with Madison Avenue, the suit says.

The defendant allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, causing a collision with the plaintiff's vehicle. He also negligently failed to keep his car under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop in time to avoid a collision, failed to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and drove his vehicle with inadequate brakes, according to the complaint.

The result was injuries to the plaintiff, some of which may be permanent; she will continue to suffer pain and mental anguish; she has experienced disability and loss of a normal life; and she will be obligated for medical expenses, the suit says, adding that the plaintiff's vehicle was damaged.

The plaintiff seeks an excess of $50,000 and court costs. She is represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
