EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist from Madison County is suing over injuries he claims to have incurred in the course of an automobile accident. He is citing negligence.
Brian W. Pillow filed the suit March 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against William J. Goestenkors.
On April 23, 2014, the plaintiff was driving his car southbound on Highway 143 near its intersection with Koepfli Lane in Highland, the suit says. He alleges that he signaled to make a right-hand turn onto Koepfli Lane, but claims the signal didn't prevent the defendant from attempting to pass the plaintiff's vehicle on the right side. The defendant struck the plaintiff's vehicle, according to the complaint.
Despite the defendant's duty to operate his vehicle in a safe manner, he breached that duty in the following ways, according to the complaint: failed to yield to a right-turning vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to reduce speed to avoid colliding with plaintiff's vehicle, and failed to operate his vehicle in a safe and proper manner.
As a result, the plaintiff was injured in his shoulder, elbow and neck, the suit says. He expects to continue experiencing pain, suffering and discomfort, disability, loss of a normal life and disfigurement, according to the suit, and expects ongoing medical bills and has lost wages, earnings and benefits.
The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000, court costs and other relief the court deems proper. He also demands a jury trial. He is represented by Alan Pirtle of Brown & Crouppen PC in St. Louis.
