Woman claims she was injured after allegedly falling on sanitary district's property

EDWARDSVILLE – A Granite City woman is suing over injuries she claims to have suffered when the ground she was walking on allegedly gave way.

Donna K. Godair filed the suit March 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Metro East Sanitary District.

According to the complaint, on March 26, 2015, the plaintiff claims she was walking behind her home and fell and injured herself when the ground located on the defendant's property allegedly gave way.

The ground at issue is an area that is commonly used by individuals that reside adjacent to the defendant's property, according to the complaint. Furthermore, the suit alleges, the defendant should have known the premises contained a fall hazard and should have fenced off the dangerous portion to prevent pedestrians from entering.

Godair claims she suffered permanent injuries, pain and anguish due to the alleged negligence, will continue to expend large sums of money for medical care and will continue to lose wages because she cannot work.

The plaintiff seeks an amount in excess of $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Edward W. Unsell, Fred Patrick Schuman and Janel L. Freeman in East Alton.
