Man sues bar, patron in connection with alleged stabbing

EDWARDSVILLE – A patron at a bar is suing over a claim that he was stabbed by an intoxicated person.

Norman Lane filed the suit March 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against The Cellar Room Tavern Inc. in Alton, Charles Wiley and Larry Northcutt.

Wiley is the owner of The Cellar Room, the suit says.

On March 21, 2015, the defendant gave or sold intoxicating liquors to Northcutt, the suit alleges. As a result of his alleged intoxication, the defendant physically attacked the plaintiff, stabbing him with a knife.

The plaintiff claims he has incurred medical bills, lost wages and suffered physical and mental pain.

Lane alleges Northcutt became intoxicated to the point that he could not control his actions, intoxicated so that he did not realize or understand what the plaintiff's intentions were and therefore misunderstood them and intoxicated so that he over-reacted to the plaintiff's actions.

The plaintiff seeks a sum in excess of $50,000 from each of the three defendants plus court costs. He is represented by Samuel A. Mormino Jr. of Mormino, Velloff & Snider PC in Alton.
