BELLEVILLE – A couple filed a medical malpractice suit alleging the husband received an injection that was contaminated with MRSA.
Robert Zanger and Lori Zanger filed the suit March 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. William Thom and Associated Physicians Group Ltd.
Defendant William Thom is a medical doctor specializing in pain management and was working for defendant Associated Physicians when the plaintiff visited both for treatment, the suit says.
On Feb. 24, 2015, Robert Zanger went to the defendants for medical care, according to the suit. He alleges the defendants were negligent by performing a joint injection using materials contaminated with Methicillin-Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA), which then infected the plaintiff with MRSA.
As a result, the suit says, the plaintiff claims he suffers permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement, and has been permanently prevented from attending to his usual affairs and has lost wages and past, present and future income. He also alleges damages from past, present and future medical bills.
Lori Zanger claims she has become liable for large sums of money for medical expenses, will become liable for additional sums in the future, and has been permanently deprived of the love, companionship, consortium, support and services to which she was entitled from her husband, the suit says.
The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $75,000 plus court costs. They are represented by Samantha S. Unsell of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
