BELLEVILLE – A patient claims she became blind when several doctors failed to properly treat a condition causing headaches and vision problems.
Alyssa Arnold filed the suit Feb. 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Franklin James MD, Kathryn MacDonald MD, Retina Consultants Ltd., Jeffrey Bowman OD, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
James and MacDonald are physicians licensed in Illinois. Retina Consultants is an Illinois corporation that assumed care of the plaintiff. Bowman is a licensed optometrist and assumed care of the plaintiff during his employment with the Wal-Mart store in St. Clair County. And HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville assumed care of the plaintiff.
According to the complaint, Arnold began seeking medical care when she started having headaches and visual disturbances. She alleges the defendants negligently and carelessly failed to treat her condition. As a result, she claims she is now blind.
Arnold claims she has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and loss of normal life. She has incurred large sums of medical bills and will continue to do so in the future, she has lost wages and income and will do so in the future.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against each defendant in an amount greater than $75,000 plus court costs.
