Shopper alleges injuries following slip and fall outside Alton Square Mall

EDWARDSVILLE – A shopper is suing the company responsible for maintaining the parking lots outside the J.C. Penny at the Alton Square Mall after she allegedly slipped and fell on snow and ice.

Rhonda Linebarger-Gravemann filed the lawsuit March 2 in Madison County Circuit Court against Diversified Maintenance Systems, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Diversified Maintenance is contracted to maintain the premises at the J.C. Penney store at the Alton Square Mall, including removal of snow and ice from the premises.

The suit says the defendant allowed the area outside the employee entrance to become a hazard. On March 3, 2014, Linebarger-Gravemann claims she slipped and fell on the accumulated snow and ice.

As a result of the defendant's negligent acts, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff was injured both internally and externally, has been hindered from attending to her usual duties, has suffered pain and anguish, and expects to continue to pay medical bills to tend to her injuries.

Linebarger-Gravemann seeks more than $50,000, costs of the lawsuit and any additional amount the court deems proper. She is represented by attorney Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm PC in East Alton.
