Wood River pedestrian blames neighbor for attack by two dogs

EDWARDSVILLE – A Wood River man is suing a neighbor for injuries he allegedly received when attacked by two dogs.

Erik Smith of Wood River filed the lawsuit Feb. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Debra Moore, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Moore owns two dogs, and on April 28, 2014, Smith who lives at 455 N. Third St., Wood River, was walking his dog in an alleyway behind the defendant's residence at 450 Hamilton, Wood River. Without provocation, the suit says, Smith was attacked by the canines, which caused him bodily injury.

The plaintiff alleges he sustained scarring, will continue to pay medical bills, will continue to lose wages, will continue to experience pain and suffering and is prevented from attending to his usual duties.

Smith seeks a trial by jury, more than $50,000, plus costs of the lawsuit. He is represented by attorney Shawn K. Lintz of Alton.
