Motorist alleges another driver smashed into her vehicle

BELLEVILLE – A motorist is suing another driver, alleging negligence over injuries she said occurred in an automobile accident.

Lerondick Gilmore filed a lawsuit Jan. 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Elijah Horton, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 12, 2014, Gilmore was driving southbound on Kingshighway near the intersection with St. Clair Avenue in Canteen Township, and, at the same time, Horton was operating his vehicle at the southbound state Route 111 exit. When the defendant attempted to turn left onto the exit ramp, the lawsuit says, he collided with the plaintiff's vehicle.

The suit says the defendant caused the accident by failing to yield right of way to the plaintiff's vehicle, failing to obey a traffic control device and operating at a dangerous speed. As a result of this negligence, the suit alleges, Gilmore endured bodily injuries, continues to suffer headaches, plus neck, back, shoulder and left knee pain, and endures impairment of his body's natural functions. All of these injuries are permanent, the suit says, and many are progressive.

The plaintiff says he will continue to have medical expenses, and his ability to enjoy life has be diminished.

Gilmore seeks at least $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Bruce F. Mattea of The Mattea Law Firm in Collinsville.
