Skokie health care business alleges non-payment from Breeze Hospice

A Skokie health care business is suing a Belleville hospice, alleging an unpaid fee due under its contract with the defendant.

Integrity Healthcare Communities LLC filed a lawsuit Nov. 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Breeze Hospice LLC of Belleville, alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 30, 2014, Integrity Healthcare entered into a contract with Breeze whereby the defendant agreed to provide hospice services to residents at the plaintiff's Wood River and Alton facilities. The suit says the defendant agreed to reimburse the plaintiff 100 percent of the Medicaid room and board rate.

Shortly after the defendant began to provide the Medicaid services, the lawsuit states, Breeze became delinquent in its payments for room and board. The suit says Integrity questioned Breeze about the delinquency, and the defendant promised to become current in its payments.

On Nov. 3, the plaintiff terminated the contract and demanded full payment from the defendant in the amount of $160,109. The suit says the defendant has made no additional payments.

Integrity Healthcare asks the court to find Breeze Hospice has breached the contract and has been unjustly enriched by receiving the benefit of services without paying for them. It seeks more than $100,000, plus court costs and attorney fees. It is represented by attorneys M. Quinn Murphy and Byron Hale of Summers Compton Wells LLC of St. Louis.
