Mother sues motorist following accident that allegedly injured her daughter

A St. Clair County woman is suing the driver of the vehicle she alleges caused a car accident that injured her daughter.

Lashonda Mitchell, as mother and next friend of a minor girl, filed the suit Dec. 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Moesha Allen and Nyokie Murphy, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on June 27, the minor plaintiff was in the roadway of South Fifth Street in East St. Louis as part of a group of people. The suit says Allen, operating Murphy's vehicle, struck the plaintiff with the car.

The suit states Allen failed to keep a proper lookout to avoid the accident. It also alleges negligent entrustment for allowing Allen to drive her vehicle.

Mitchell seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs and other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by attorney Jarrod P. Beasley of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC of Belleville.
