Father says medical center, doctor failed to aid his abused daughter

An Illinois man is suing a Belleville hospital and physician for allegedly failing to recognize that his daughter had been abused.

Eddy Runyon, on behalf of his minor daughter Amanda, filed a lawsuit on Oct. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Medical Center in Belleville and Dr. David Nile, alleging omission and negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 22, 2010, Amanda Runyon came under the care of the defendants and they failed to recognize that she was an abused or neglected child and, as such, failed to notify the proper authorities as mandated by the Abused and Protected Child Reporting Act.

Further, the suit says Amanda Runyon endured severe physical abuse that resulted in near fatal injuries.

Eddy Runyon seeks more than $50,000 from both defendants, plus court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorneys J. Michael Weilmuenster and J. Brian Manion of Weilmuenster & Keck in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-619.
