A Tazewell County woman claims she was injured when a construction zone sign struck the windshield of the vehicle she was riding in, causing the car to flip over the median.
Karen Cox filed the suit on Nov. 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against The Kilian Corporation and Jared K. Arnold, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on May 26, Cox was riding in defendant Arnold's vehicle along Interstate Highway 64 in Washington County when the windshield was struck by a traffic sign that had been set up by Kilian in a construction zone. The suit alleges the defendant swerved his vehicle toward the center median, lost control and flipped over the vehicle in the median.
The lawsuit states that the plaintiff suffered serious and permanent bodily harm, pain, discomfort and mental anguish, resulting in disfigurement and disability.
Cox seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000 from each defendant, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorneys James P. LeFante of LeFante Law Offices in Peoria, and Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Ysura, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville.
