Belleville hospital, doctors sued after patient died from excess bleeding during back surgery

The estate of a St. Elizabeth Hospital patient is suing the hospital and the decedent's doctors after the medical team allegedly failed to stop her bleeding during back surgery.

The sstate of Lori Ann Taylor filed a lawsuit on Oct. 22 against Dr. Joseph Yazdi, Dr. Richard Coats, the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, and others, in the St. Clair County Circuit Court, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 23, 2013, Taylor died while undergoing a back operation performed by Yazdi at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

The suit states that the illiac vein of the deceased was perforated during the operation and the bleeding was never stopped, resulting in the patient's death.

The plaintiff is demanding unspecified damages, plus costs and interest.

The plaintiff is represented by Drew C. Baeber of Bauer & Baebler of St. Louis.
