Crowder approves $100,000 settlement in wrongful death suit against foster mother

Madison County Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder approved a $100,000 settlement on Oct. 16 in a lawsuit against a foster mother alleging a girl died while in her care.

Crowder scheduled a hearing in the case for Nov. 24 at 1:30 p.m.

Rene Butler, independent administrator of the estate of the late Cyrenity Gordon, deceased, filed the lawsuit on Aug. 21 against Apryl Pitman, the foster mother in whose care Gordon had been placed.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff claims Gordon died as a direct result of an act of negligence on the part of Pitman. She seeks a settlement in the amount of $100,000, to be paid on the behalf of Pitman’s insurer, and to be divided in specific terms among Gordon’s family, the medical facility that provided care for Gordon, her legal representation and the administrator.

Butler and the Gordon family are represented by Joseph R. Hillebrand of St. Louis.
