A St. Clair County woman is suing a motorist for allegedly backing into her vehicle in a shopping mall parking lot.
Charlene Baugh of Madison filed a lawsuit on July 9 in Madison County Circuit Court against Sarah Fields, also of Madison, alleging vehicular negligence following a parking lot collision at the Alton Square Mall in 2013.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 20, 2013, Baugh was navigating her vehicle in the mall parking lot when Fields backed into the plaintiff's automobile and caused damages.
Baugh alleges Fields failed to keep her vehicle under sufficient control, maintain a proper lookout, reduce her speed to avoid the collision, yield to the vehicle that was traveling behind her and operate her car at an appropriate speed for the maneuver she was attempting.
The suit alleges the plaintiff sustained personal injuries, pain and suffering and also experienced lost wages and medical bills as a result of the accident.
Baugh seeks judgment of more than $50,000 plus attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Jane Unsell of Unsell, Schattnik & Phillips in Wood River.
