Judge sets status conference in engineer’s lawsuit against railway

St. Clair County Circuit Judge Vincent Lopinot scheduled an Oct. 14 mandatory status conference in a lawsuit against the Alton & Southern Railway Co. for injuries an engineer contends he sustained on the job.

Frank A. Dejarnette filed the complaint on July 23, claiming he suffered severe injuries to his back, neck, knees, arms, shoulders and rotator cuffs after attempting to throw a switch in the yard while working on March 9, 2012.

He blames the railway for causing his injuries, claiming it negligently failed to provide him with a safe place to work, failed to repair the switch and exposed the switch to increased amounts of mud and dirt that impaired its ability to properly function.

Dejarnette's suit seeks a judgment of more than $50,000.

John T. Papa of Callis, Papa, Hale and Szewczyk in Granite City represents Dejarnette.

Stephen Buckley represents the defendant.
