A woman has filed suit against the nursing home where she claims her relative died after staff allegedly failed to keep her properly hydrated.
Barbara Van Voorden claims the recently deceased Apolonia Van Voorden had been living at defendant Eden Village Retirement Center where she developed C. difficile diarrhea, which led to sepsis and her death on Nov. 11, 2012.
Barbara Van Voorden contends Apolonia Van Voorden’s death could have been avoided, but nursing home staff allowed her to become infected and dehydrated and to develop diarrhea and renal failure. Staff also failed to properly care for Apolonia Van Voorden, according to the complaint filed Sept. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.
In her complaint, Barbara Van Voorden is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs.
She will be represented by John J. Hopkins and Associates in Alton.
