Collision with tow truck caused psychological trauma, suit claims

A man claims he suffered severe psychological trauma after a tow truck driver struck his vehicle in the middle of an intersection.

Harold Marshall filed a lawsuit Aug. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alexander Q. Williams.

In his complaint, Marshall alleges he was driving his Silverado pickup truck on West 20th Street in Granite City on March 5 when he stopped at a red light at the intersection of Illinois Route 3. When Marshall’s light turned green, he waited for at least one vehicle to travel through the intersection before he began to cross, according to the complaint.

“Defendant Williams entered the intersection on a red light, causing plaintiff Marshall to strike Williams’s vehicle in the side,” the suit states. “The force of the impact caused the car being towed to swing around and strike the side of Marshalls truck.”

Because of the collision, Marshall’s truck was totaled, the complaint says. He also claims he incurred medical costs, suffered physical injuries for which he had to be transported to Gateway Regional Medical Center and endured severe psychological trauma.

In his complaint, Marshall seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Bill T. Walker of Granite City will be representing him.
