Semi truck driver claims train struck him at Granite City crossing

An Edwardsville railroad company is being sued after one of its trains allegedly entered a railroad crossing without warning and crashed into a semi-truck.

Mustafa Bisanovic filed a lawsuit Aug. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court against Scott Nauert and Respondek Railroad Corporation.

Bisanovic says he was driving a semi-truck on C Street in Granite City in August 2011. As he tried to cross the railroad crossing at 1st Street, according to the complaint, a train under the direction of Nauert entered the crossing and crashed into Bisanovic's truck.

Bisanovic claims Nauert gave no warning as he approached the unmonitored crossing nor did the railroad company use crewmen or flagmen to protect the crossing that is heavily traveled by semi-trucks. He accuses the defendants of negligence and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and court fees.

Attorney Patrick A. Watts of St. Louis represents Bisanovic.
