Alton rear-end accident results in injuries, suit claims

A Madison County woman claims she suffered severe and permanent injuries after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Mary J. Voyles filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Helen M. Silvester.

Voyles claims she was driving south on the Broadway Connector of Highway 143 in Alton when she stopped at a red light and attempted to turn right. Suddenly, Silvester, who was also driving south, struck the back of Voyles’s vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Voyles experienced pain, suffering and disfigurement; incurred medical costs; lost wages; endured an impaired earning capacity; and incurred vehicular repair costs, the suit states.

Voyles blames Silvester for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to obey a traffic control device, failed to sound a horn to warn of her impending collision and failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision.

In her complaint, Voyles seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Brian M. Wendler of Wendler Law in Edwardsville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1413.
