A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle.
Willene J. Powers claims she was driving on Oakwood Avenue in Alton on Oct. 17, 2012, when defendant Andrew J. Stafford, who was driving on the same road behind Powers, struck the back of her vehicle.
Because of the collision, Powers sustained injuries that resulted in disability and disfigurement, suffered great pain and mental anguish and lost earnings, according to the complaint filed Aug. 14 in Madison County Circuit Court. She also incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Stafford negligently drove in such a manner as to strike the back of her vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply his brakes, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, ran into her vehicle, followed her vehicle too closely and drove while distracted, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Powers seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing her.
