Pedestrian sues homeowner claiming gravel on sidewalk caused foot and leg injuries

In a recently filed lawsuit, a woman blames a man who had left gravel on his sidewalk for causing her to sustain left foot and leg injuries.

Debbie Hamilton filed a lawsuit Aug. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court against Stephen Largent.

In her complaint, Hamilton alleges she was walking on a sidewalk in front of Largent’s home at 220 North Seminary in Collinsville when she fell after her left foot skidded on some rock and debris that had been pushed on the sidewalk.

In addition to her injuries, Hamilton was prevented from attending to her usual affairs, suffered great pain and lost wages, according to the complaint.

Hamilton blames Largent for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to adequately maintain the sidewalk in front of his home, placed debris in front of his house and failed to remove the debris from the front of his home.

In her complaint, Hamilton seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1357.
