Five sue over rear-end collision in Alton

Five people claim they sustained head and neck injuries after a driver collided with the vehicle in which they were riding.

Ashley P. Logsdon and James M. Logsdon and three minor children filed a lawsuit April 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Charles P. Marin.

In their complaint, the Logsdons allege Ashley Logsdon was driving west on College Avenue in Alton at its intersection with Stanley Road on April 24, 2011, when Marin, who was driving west on the same road, rear-ended the vehicle Ashley Logsdon was driving. At the time of the collision, James M. Logsdon and three minor children -- Christopher L. Gleason, Taylor D. Gleason and Layla R. Gleason -- were riding in the vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to their injuries, the plaintiffs incurred medical costs and have been unable to pursue their normal activities, the suit states.

They blame Marin for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, followed another vehicle too closely and failed to change lanes only when it was safe to do so.

In their five-count complaint, the plaintiffs seek a judgment of more than $250,000, plus other relief the court deems just.

Matthew J. Padberg and Anna E. Haber of Padberg, Corrigan and Appelbaum in St. Louis will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-557.
