ESL church sued after woman falls on steps

An East St. Louis church is being sued by a woman who says she slipped and fell on a broken step while there to attend services.

Marcella McCorn filed a lawsuit Sept. 13 in St.Clair County Circuit Court against New Jerusalem Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

According to the petition, McCorn was attending the New Jerusalem Church in July 2010 when she slipped on a broken step and hurt her back, neck and leg. She accuses the church of negligence and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court fees.

Attorney Shaun M. Falvey, of St. Louis, Mo., is representing McCorn.
