Wal-Mart customer sues over spilled milk

A Granite City woman is suing over spilled milk.

Rachel Byrd filed a complaint July 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. She accuses the store of negligence after she allegedly slipped on milk and hurt herself.

Byrd says she was shopping at Wal-Mart in Granite City in November 2010 when she allegedly slipped on the milk that she says was pooled in the refrigerated aisle.

The Granite City woman received "severe and permanent injuries" as a result of the fall. She says the store is liable for failing to clean the milk and for failing to warn shoppers of the danger.

Byrd is asking to be awarded between $50,000 and $75,000 in damages along with court costs and attorney fees.

Attorney Matthew R. Chapman, of Granite City, is representing Byrd.
