Union Pacific sued over jackhammer injuries

A Madison County railroad worker is suing Union Pacific Railroad after allegedly being hurt on the job.

Patrick A. Welding filed the lawsuit Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Company.

Welding says he was working for the railroad company as a trackman in February 2008. He claims he was injured while operating a jackhammer on a job near Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Welding accuses Union Pacific of failing to provide a safe work environment. He is asking for more than $50,000 for medical expenses, lost wages and court costs.

Attorney Gregory M. Tobin of East Alton is representing Welding.
