A woman has filed suit against her former employer, alleging she was illegally fired after her employer hired a younger male worker to replace her.
Terri Ann Koelker claims she was hired on April 22, 2008, to work as an administrative assistant to Innovative Technical Solutions.
Although Koelker performed all of her job duties to Innovative's requirements, Innovative fired her on April 5, 2009, and replaced her with a younger male employee, according to the complaint filed July 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
"That in terminating Plaintiff's employment, ITS intended to discriminate unlawfully and did discriminate unlawfully against the Plaintiff because of her sex and/or age," the suit states.
Because of her termination, Koelker has lost back and front pay and suffered mental anguish, embarrassment, humiliation, loss of her enjoyment of life and inconvenience, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Koelker is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs and other
relief to which she may be entitled.
Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk and Danzinger in Granite City will be representing her.
