Bike rider claims car backed into him on Madison County trail

A Madison County man claims a driver backed into him as he rode on a bicycle trail.

Richard L. Eickman filed a lawsuit June 25 in Madison County Circuit Court against David Matthews and R.P. Lumber.

Eickman claims he rode his bicycle on a trail system on April 22, 2009, when Matthews, who drove a 2003 P.T. Cruiser belonging to R.P. Lumber, backed into him.

Because of the incident, Eickman suffered severe and permanent injuries, incurred medical bills and lost property, according to the complaint.

He blames Matthews for negligence, saying Matthews drove recklessly and failed to avoid colliding with a person riding a bicycle.

In his two-count complaint, Eickman seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus other relief to which he may be entitled.

Brian L. Polinske of Polinske and Associates in Edwardsville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-675.
