Granite City rear-end accident subject of suit

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims rear-ended him.

Curtis A. Beatty claims he was driving east on Johnson Road at its intersection with Lydia Lane in Granite City on Dec. 31 at about 1:48 p.m. when defendant John Paul Arnett, who was driving a vehicle for defendant Wright Industrial, rear-ended him.

Because of the collision, Beatty became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; suffered extensive injuries to his head, body and limbs, including his neck and back; incurred medical costs; endured pain and suffering; lost wages; and suffered an impairment to his future earning capacity, according to the complaint filed May 14 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Arnett negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that he struck the rear of Beatty's vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, followed Beatty's vehicle too closely and drove without adequate brakes, the suit states.

In his two-count suit, Beatty is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

He will be represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-520.
