A Randolph County woman claims she incurred medical costs after a driver struck her while attempting to turn left.
Colleen L. English filed a lawsuit Feb. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Barbara A. Schmitt.
English claims she drove a 1995 Ford Taurus north on Illinois Route 159 at its intersection with Lakeland Hills Drive in Fairview Heights on Feb. 14, 2008, at about 7:30 a.m.
According to the complaint, English prepared to make a left turn when Schmitt, who attempted to also make a left-hand turn in a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue, crashed into her.
Because of the collision, English's nervous system sustained injuries, she experienced a diminished earning capacity and her ability to enjoy life has been severely impacted, the suit states.
English blames Schmitt for causing the accident, saying she failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield the right-of-way at an intersection.
English seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Robert C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville will be representing her.
