A Granite City law firm has settled a breach of contract suit against a former client they represented during his divorce.
James Shrum agreed to pay Roth Evans, P.C., $28,875.11 for legal services rendered. Madison County Associate Judge Ralph Mendelsohn signed off on the deal late last month.
Roth Evans filed the breach of contract suit on June 4, alleging Shrum failed to pay for legal services rendered during a 2005 divorce proceeding.
According to the law firm, Shrum signed a contract agreeing to pay an hourly rate of $225 for partners, $175 for associates and $75 for paralegals and law clerks. Shrum was also to pay for all costs incurred.
Roth Evans alleged they billed Shrum $21,705.50, but he only paid $1,000 putting him in breach of contract.
As part of the settlement, Shrum agreed to pay $8,169.61 in interest since he was past due for over 25 months.
Eric Evans represented his firm.
