Union Pacific named in FELA complaint

Union Pacific brakeman and conductor Harvey Rainey has filed a Federal Employers' Liability Act suit in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Rainey claims he was exposed to cumulative and repetitive traumas to his legs, knees, ankles and feet during the course of his employment from February 1967 through Oct. 1, 2007, states the complaint filed June 4.

Represented by William P. Gavin of the Gavin Law Firm in Belleville, Rainey also is claiming damages under the Locomotive Boiler Inspection Act and the Safety Appliance Act.

He seeks in excess of $450,000 in damages, claiming the railroad failed to provide him with a reasonably safe place to work, among other allegations.
