Barbara Fowler filed a wrongful death suit against Memorial Convalescent Center and Memorial Hospital in Belleville, alleging negligence in the care of her mother Margaret Felox.
According to the suit filed Dec. 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Fowler alleges the nursing home failed to provide adequate and properly supervised care when Felox was a resident from Dec. 2, 2005 through Dec. 15, 2005. Felox died March 13, 2006, the suit claims.
"Margaret Felox sustained injuries including but not limited to clostridium difficile, dehydration, malnutrition, sepsis and respiratory failure," the complaint states.
Represented by Staci M. Yandle of Belleville, Fowler is seeking in excess of $250,000 in damages.
Fowler claims that Memorial Hospital failed to prevent the development and deterioration of decubitus ulcers while Felox received hospital services from Dec. 12, 2005, through Feb. 15, 2006. She also claims the hospital is negligent for failing to provide prompt medical treatment to Felox.
The suit names James Wade, M.D. and Willowcreek Rehabilitation & Nursing Center as respondents in discovery.
