East St. Louis nightclub sued over shooting

An East St. Louis nightclub is being sued by a customer who was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant last year.

Donald Mack of St. Louis claims Club Casino failed to provide adequate security in his suit against the La Bon Vie Corp. filed June 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Among other things, Mack claims the nightclub is negligent for not performing a comprehensive security analysis by competent security professionals.

Mack claims Club Casino was the scene of frequent and numerous violent crimes and that it was not uncommon for patrons to carry concealed weapons into the facility.

"Defendant's premises was the scene of frequent and numerous violent crimes and other crimes against persons substantially similar to the assault suffered by Plaintiff, during the period of five years prior to the date of the assault," the complaint states.

The incident took place at the club, located at 6830 State St., at 4 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2005.

Mack, represented by Joseph M. Taylor of Taylor & Taylor in St. Louis, is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages, pre-judgment interest and costs.

He claims he was compelled to be absent from his usual occupation for many weeks, thereby losing great gains and profits he otherwise would have received, and will, in the future, lose further wages in an amount that cannot be determined at this time.
