Seeing eye dog's death blamed on Highland Animal Shelter

Highland Animal Shelter

Jeanette Small of Highland is suing the Highland Animal Shelter claiming her seeing eye dog, Linus, was attacked and killed by other animals at the shelter on Oct. 19, 2004.

Seeking at least $50,000 in damages, Small claims she has been deprived of the use and value of Linus. She filed suit Oct. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

“It was the duty of Highland Animal Shelter to operate the shelter so as not to cause injury to the property of Small,” the complaint states.

Small is represented by Steve Selby and Jeff Naville of Smith, Mendenhall & Selby of Alton.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Dan Stack.
